I attended two colleges for my undergraduate work: Manchester College and IUPUI. My degree in English is from IUPUI, where I participated in the publication of the campus literary magazine and a capstone thesis project. At Manchester, I wrote for the newspaper staff, co-founded the Literary Club, and helped produce the literary magazine. I have one year of Master's work from the University of Indianapolis, but have not earned an MA yet. I write every day and have excellent editing skills, from structural editing to copyediting. For the past 30 years, I have worked with special needs students. I believe that students learn at their educational level. The problem with education today, is that students are often in classrooms that stress learning at their frustration level. Many students are in general ed settings, but are forced to use materials that they do not fully understand. During my undergraduate studies I tutored at Delta College's Teaching/Learning Center for almost 2 years. While working there I received an award for Tutor of the Year. Delta College being a community college with a wide range of students I have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds. I focused mainly in the areas of Mathematics and Computer Science. After high school, I recognized in myself a desire to work with elementary- and high school-aged children. I have always been at the top of my classes and was heading for an engineering school before I discovered a love for helping kids.
