EXPERT TUTOR-MultiSubject; Home/ONLINE; +WRITING instructor

As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. My philosophy is that teaching is part knowledge, part communication, and part intuition. My intuition is necessary to understand where a student is getting stuck. I myself already understand the material; the challenge is to understand why a student does not. A variety of communicative teaching approaches is best. I have learned that different students respond to visual, auditory, or tactile methods. As always, continuous practice is extremely important. I also must ... read more

Chemistry, Biology, English, Algebra I & II, ACT, SAT, LSAT

I am a 23 year old graduate of Vanderbilt University, Class of 2014. I majored in Medicine, Health, and Society, while minoring in Philosophy. I began my undergraduate career as a pre-mededical student, but eventually transitioned towards preparation for law school, though I completed all of the pre-med requirements besides Physics. Throughout my undergraduate education I became well-versed in the areas of General Chemistry, Biology, Algebra I & II, and English, among other subject areas. Prior to my entry into college, I took both the SAT and ACT, and scored exceptionally well on both of them. I am currently working as a paralegal at Peter T. Skeie & Associates, a law firm representing individuals in Social Security and ERISA disability claims. I will be attending law school in the fall of 2015, with my school choice TBD within the next couple months.

My comments on tutoring Biology : Highly qualified K-8

Constructivist, multi-sensory, inquiry-based.
For 20 years I worked for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, as a fifth through 7th Grade classroom teacher. I taught all of the academic subjects in various combinations, sometimes all at once to a self-contained class. The State of Tennessee recognized me as "Highly Qualified" in all subjects, from Kindergarten through 8th Grade. I served on the district's math council for 5 years, helped direct the district's science fair one year, and worked extensively in the field of arts-based curriculum development. I also was trained in the IB curriculum, and implemented it for 10 years.

A Little Bit About Me...

My name is Richard DiTullio and I have been interested in the sciences and education for many years. I received my BA in Biology from Drew University and went on to obtain my PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Pennsylvania. Throughout my career I have been involved in educating my fellows both formally in tutoring and classroom situations and informally during on the job training. I currently teach Health and Wellness courses at the University of Phoenix and have been tutoring in the Nashville area for the last 4 years.
My philosophy is that a student should not only know the right answer but understand how to come to the right answer and the relevance of this knowledge in their daily lives. I dedicate myself to patient explanations of the materials leavened with entertaining trivia and asides that add context and a little fun to the learning. I look forward to le ... read more

Biology is one of my top subjects!

I am a believer in learning and understanding concepts and principles of the subject being studied. Asking why and how we come to a conclusion rather than memorizing or mindlessly going through steps generates long term success. I believe that this is the best way for a student to prepare for any question or scenario that may be asked or given as well as preparing for future expansion in the subject.
I am a pre-med student at MTSU, and I will be graduating with a second degree in Science this year. I have experience tutoring grade school students in math and reading subjects. I also have experience teaching college students in science subjects. Before attending MTSU, I was a professional ballroom dancer and instructor for five years. I have experience teaching ballroom dancing to children as young as five and adults as young as 70!

Biology is one of my top subjects! I taught HS Biology for 11 years and helped many students learn to enjoy science. I have a 100% pass rate for the state EOC for Biology. I enjoyed a long, successful career in teaching and can help make some difficult topics more understandable for students.

I use a lot of different approaches when working with students and, in tutoring situations, try to get to know each individual to determine what will be the best way for them to learn.
I am a retired teacher with 30 years of teaching experience. I grew up in middle Tennessee and attended MTSU where I received my Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. I began teaching in the middle school grades and while doing so, got my second Masters degree through Trevecca Nazarene University. I've taught Physical Education, Physical Science and Biology. I have coached girls' volleyball and boys' and girls' soccer, winning a city championship in each sport. I continue to teach as I'm currently teaching my granddaughter in swim!
