I would describe my teaching style as learning by doing and not learning by lecture. I like the structure and logic of Math. I have always enjoyed helping students grasp concepts that can be utilized in the sciences.
I have taught math for thirty five (35) years at Lexington high school. I try to find a common, basic level of understanding with the student and then show how a few key insights can help the student broaden her/his knowledge. In math, for example, this typically means showing how elementary concepts can be applied to simplify more complex problems, such as showing how such things as the distributive and associative properties are being used in solving equations, sometimes in a context where these things are often glossed over.
I have taught computer science courses in business college, and I taught algebra, calculus, and statistics as a graduate student. I remain convinced of the necessity of obtaining basic math skills for success in today's world, and I spend a lot of time maintaining my own skills in math and computers. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that each child learn differently, and as such, I have found the best way to teach is to cater to each child's individual learning style. In working one-on-one with students, I feel as though it is crucial to build a trusting relationship in which the child feels comfortable stating whether or not the teaching style I am using is working for them.
