I teach to the student's strengths and continually tailor my instruction to my observations and assessments of the student's learning preferences and progress. I graduated with honors from Grand Valley State University with my Bachelors in Psychology/Special Education in 1997. My areas of expertise include emotional impairments and cognitive impairments. In 2001, I graduated with a 4.0 in my Masters of Special Education Administration program. I also received my Special Education Supervisor approval certification at this time. I have taught in for 9 years in programs for students having severe emotional impairments in segregated facilities. I also have been a special education supervisor at an Intermediate School District for 6 years. My teaching expertice has mostly centered around middle school level students and in the area of Language Arts and Creative Writing.

My teaching style is simply to provide an environment that is conducive to learning – one which supports collaboration and teamwork, student-centricity, personalization, fun, and humor. I am committed to providing the highest quality education for my students. Each individual learns differently, and I have come to accept that I can't entirely please each and every individual in the classroom (especially when I have over 200 students). I have also come to accept that not every student will "like me". As an instructor, it is my role to present information in a way so students learn. I have realized that students learn, not because they think I am "cool", but rather because the information was presented to accommodate each and every learning style.
