I love helping children learn.

I meet the student and work around their specific needs. If they are more energetic then I find things that will not only help them learn but will also allow them to use some of their excess energy. However if the student is more laid back I find more calm and relaxing ways to help them understand. I have a rewards system that allows the student to earn tickets that they can later use to get things that they can use.
I have helped my cousins, which are 9 and 11, in school for years with reading and writing. I am also able to help in environmental science and economics. In high school I completed both with an A-. I have also taken A computer class and a business class at Muskegon Community College and excelled at both. I am able to help a student learn to type more effectively. I am also able to tailor my teaching style around the student.

I have a simple teaching style. I teach according to the students needs. I try to get a sense of how the student learns best and let them direct me to what they need. I teach the student to teach themselves. I have had great sucess with my approach in the past, as this is a very self-rewarding experience for the student. I have often found that students soon catch-on and then begin to excell on their own. I have used these techniques to tutor algebra, geometry, algebra II and psychology, political science, anatomy and physiology. I love to see that look in a students' eyes when they "get it!"
I have obtained a bachelor degree in biopsychology from GVSU, which required me to learn many levels of science and math as well as anatomy and physiology. I have a deep understanding and appreciation for this field of study and have produced many reports and essays in the aforementi ... read more

I have always loved teaching and working with kids. I have volunteered at a number of places that allowed me to exercise my ability to tutor and mentor children ages 5-17. Since high school, I have volunteered at a local preschool. This past summer, I spent time in Honduras teaching English at an orphanage. I have a very concrete understanding of English and Spanish grammar, and I have spent the last four years studying writing at Grand Valley State University.
I believe that the teacher's most important job is to present material in a way that makes learning fun and interesting. Everyone learns best in different ways, and it is important to remember this when tutoring or teaching. Whereas some learn best with visualizations, others learn by listening. I love finding new and creative ways to present a lesson or concept. I have a passion for teaching and hope to be an educator for t ... read more

I believe everyone has the tools to succeed. The ability to recognize strengths and weaknesses, and to adjust accordingly, is what it takes to succeed. Everyone is an individual, and as such, everyone has unique learning techniques. I believe encouraging the natural curiosity the student is the best way to foster a learning environment. By encouraging curiosity an instructor can turn learning from a chore to do, into a lifelong activity enjoyed by the student. As a person who takes personal pride in their work, I would strive to provide the highest quality assistance to your student. I would be diligent in providing the best information and tools to enable your student to succeed.

A Little Bit About Me...

The greatest challenge in effectively teaching students is also what makes being an educator most rewarding. That challenge is about making connections with what students already know. My teaching style focuses on having an understanding of the student's pre-existing knowledge, and using that as a base on which to create connections to new knowledge. In this way, new ideas that were once abstract can be made relevant to the student's life, creating a real learning situation. This challenge is also the most rewarding part of being an educator because when students learn by building connections, they get excited about that new information. In addition to creating a lesson based on the students' pre-existing knowledge, I believe that the most effective way to teach should include a combination of methods of instruction. More than simply reading text and writing responses to questions, ... read more

At the University of Tampa I earned a BS in Biochemistry. While completing my degree I became knowledgeable in many areas of math and science. I also gained skills in grammar while writing research papers, lab reports, and essays in various classes. I worked in the academic center for excellence on campus for two years tutoring fellow students in chemistry, biology, genetics, and mathematics.
I love to help people, and I thrive in relationships with others that leave a meaningful impression on both the giver and the receiver. I personally have always tried to achieve academic excellence, and I love to assist others in doing the same. I am a good listener, patient, easy going, and understanding. I recognize that all students learn differently, and I try to tailor my teaching to the individual student's learning style and needs.

I currently hold an associate’s degree from Grand Rapids Community College in applied arts as well as an associate’s degree from Davenport University in accounting. I will also graduate with a bachelor’s degree in accounting on April 25, 2010. I worked for over three years for the Boardwalk Fitness Center where I was the general manager in charge of over 20 employees. I was also responsible for the general accounting duties, payroll, and customer billing. I am also an Eagle scout, where I spent years doing community service and teaching younger scounts.
I love working with children of all ages. My teaching style I would describe as a friendship in which I work together. I have found as long as you are a positive force and are willing to put in as much time as it takes, you can help the student reach their fullest potential.

My love of mathematics and science has driven me to where I am today. I have earned a BS in chemistry and have just graduated from MSU's medical school. This has provided me with an extensive background in the basic as well as the more complex maths and sciences needed to achieve the successes I have. As an undergraduate majoring in chemistry, I was provided with many opportunities to use my abilities to help those classmates of mine who had questions or needed extra help. During the last 8 years, I have had the opportunity to tutor students in chemistry, basic mathematics, and work with elementary school afterschool program for at risk children. I have extensive experience with research papers and lab reports.

My teaching style is simply to provide an environment that is conducive to learning – one which supports collaboration and teamwork, student-centricity, personalization, fun, and humor. I am committed to providing the highest quality education for my students. Each individual learns differently, and I have come to accept that I can't entirely please each and every individual in the classroom (especially when I have over 200 students). I have also come to accept that not every student will "like me". As an instructor, it is my role to present information in a way so students learn. I have realized that students learn, not because they think I am "cool", but rather because the information was presented to accommodate each and every learning style. Therefore, I try to use a variety of different mediums (e.g., visual, audio, etc.) when presenting the class material.

What more better experience then to start at home by helping my little brother and sister. For the past five years I have tutored my brother and sister in many different subjects. I have done math, reading, science, history. Basically all elementary subjects.I am Bilingual and speak both English, and Spanish fluently.
I try to make the subjects fun for them. For example i bring out cubes, candy, or fruits for math problems so they can visually see the mathamatical problem. If its science I try to make 3D projects so they can better understand, for example the solar system. I try to get there intrest so they can have fun and not be bored and feel like its a waist of time. I know everyone learns in different ways and I understand that because im the same way. Im very patient, and very easy going. My goal is to give them the education they need to succeed in life.

Groups are beneficial because there are a variety of opinions, abilities, and skill levels, thus teaching students the importance of unity in the workplace and classroom. Buddies are important because they give students someone other than the teacher to go to with questions that may seem "silly" and give them someone with whom to share concerns. Books and technology can be used to multi-facet the learning experiences of all students involved, as there may be several types of abilities in the classroom and multiple "intelligences," as well. I am also a proponent of projects that echo what I am currently teaching.
I care deeply about the next generation and wish to impart on them a desire to learn. I have seen a student change from a surly individual to one who participated in class and became more consistent in homework. I believe that respect, encouragement, and care can motivate a ... read more
