As a tutor, I understand my responsibility primarily as that of helping children reach their potential. I try to help my students understand concepts they are struggling with in primarily three ways. First, I find what their strengths are and see if I can extend understanding of these concepts to the one's they are struggling with. Secondly, I use many examples of a concept to break complex math down into simpler, concise ideas and problem-solving techniques. Third, I try a number of different conceptual approaches to determine which is the most useful for a particular student. As a student at the University of Chicago, I have tutored at the local Ray Elementary school through the Neighborhood Schools program.
