A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that teaching through lecture and hands-on activities is the most effective. A student that is capable of "teaching" the teacher a lesson and explaining the subject in their own words will have a greater understanding of the subject. When I teach and tutor I explain to the student the topic in my words, and then continue to ask for feedback until the student is capable of explaining the lesson in their own words.
While attending law school, I spent 2 full academic years tutoring first year law students. I tutored property and constitutional law. It was through tutoring that I was able to help several students improve their grades, both through emotional support and exceptional knowledge in the subjects. I enjoy learning new things and sharing that knowledge with others.

I enjoy tutoring children one on one. Many children have difficulties in school because of low confidence levels, which are reinforced in the classroom by very little individual attention. I believe the more comfortable a child feels in her/his learning environment, the easier she/he will learn. As a tutor, I try to ease academic pressure by developing a relaxed, supportive relationship with the student. I emphasize the positive, stronger aspects of their work, and attempt to highlight instances in which the child teaches me. In this way the child confidently confronts learning obstacles without fear of criticism. It is amazing how quickly children advance when they have an exceptional relationship with their teacher. I love to see children discover the breadth of their own potential.
