A Little Bit About Me...

Tutoring began for me at Montana State University-Northern while attending school majoring in Pre-Med. I worked at Student Support Services for five semesters tutoring mostly science based classes. I fell in love with giving knowledge and helping students understand concepts of their specific courses. I am two semesters away from obtaining my B.S in Pre-Med with a minor in chemistry. I have always enjoyed working with multiple levels of students, but prefer high school and up. Math and science are my preferred areas for tutoring including: Introductory chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics 1, cellular biology, anatomy and physiology, zoology, microbiology, and molecular biology.
At the university level, my experience has shown me that all students can have trouble from basic to advanced concepts. During the first meeting I explain to the student t ... read more

Most of my tutoring experience has been working with 9-12th graders, which I have found to enjoy because the relationship between student and tutor is closer to a peer-peer relationship. My style of teaching includes mostly example problems and breaking down these problems into basic parts. I like to find example problems that are challenging to the student, but not to the point of frustration. I try to keep the students' confidence up so that they are willing to try the next, more challenging problem.
As a graduate student in mechanical engineering, I have much experience in the math and science fields including experimental methods. I have written many technical conference papers as well as presented them to researchers around the country. These experiences have come in quite useful during the last year when I have tutored SAT and ACT prep courses in math and science, as well as ... read more

I started as an Adjunct Instructor at ISU for the Geomatics Engineering program for the 2007-2008 school year. Prepare for class setup the curriculum, homework, grading and test for 10-12 students. I went to ITT Technical Institute following that and was offered to Chair School of Drafting & Design. I taught and ran the department for 2 years. I was in charge of 4-10 teachers and 170+ students.
I believe in identifying the learning style of the student which can take some time with some. Are they a visual learner I draw pictures, maps, charts and video; if an audio learner tapes, lecture, youtube, video, etc,.. and if a kinesthetic learner then they need the hands on experience to develop the learning that is needed, so then standing back to guide the thought process without doing it for them.

Although I am patient with the student, I am persistent in searching for new ways to present material so that the student can relate to it. I put my Special Education background to good use with students of all ages and walks of life, especially in breaking a skill into its component parts so as to fill in any knowledge gaps that may be unknowingly holding the student back from success. I am also gifted in recognizing hidden patterns that can help or hinder and either capitalizing on or reducing them as needed. Since I've discovered that it's often self-esteem or fear that creates the learning difficulty, I've also learned to teach esteem-building and stress-relieving techniques that are easy for the student to learn and implement. My mission is sharing with all that I meet the valuable and wonderful things that I learn or discover on my life journey.

I have always had a love for math and science. I was able to challenge and develop my problem solving skills in achieving a Masters Degree in Architecture. I have a also received a Minor in Business. My ability to quickly understand and apply math and sciences led me to help my peers in study groups to understand materials and pass tests. I was able to tutor in physics and accounting. Over the last year I have also had the opportunity to help my little sister, who is literature oriented, to pass sophomore algebra. I have always pushed myself towards excellence. I was one of the top students in my class and I made the Dean's list my five years of college.
I love being creative and finding ways to help others learn. I am great with children, and believe that patience and encouragement can give them confidence to excel at anything they choose. I am very easy to get along with. ... read more

I have earned an AA in Liberal arts, AS in Allied Health, and a BS in Biology which have enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math, chemistry, genetics and science. I was a Chemistry lab assistant at a JC for a year, during which I aided and tutored chemistry students with their general and organic chemistry needs, and prepared classroom instructional materials and labs for all the Chemistry classes. In addition to tutoring peers and friends at the JC, I helped students at the CSU I attended with everything from chemistry and genetics to physiology and cellular biology. I also have ample experience tutoring grammar school kids, grades 3rd through 8th, in language arts, math, chemistry, and all other sciences.
I once had a Chemistry professor whose encouragement and unique enjoyment of Chemistry inspired and allowed me to understand Chemistry like I never had before. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught freshman chemistry in the fall of 2009. I greatly enjoyed the time spent with the students, and seeing the ahh ha moments. I also worked as a graduate student assistant teaching the knowledge that I had to the undergraduates from June 2008 to June 2009.
With all my students including with my own daughter I expect them to try. I tend to be unforgiving until I see them try, then I will step in and correct. I am always amazed on how many kids young and old have learned how to sit out and wait till someone just gives them the answer. Science is hard stuff and the best thing that I can do is teach them how to look up the information that they need.

I was a "Master Tutor" of Mathematics and Physics at BSU during my undergraduate studies, qualified to tutor all levels of Mathematics from arithmetic thru vector calculus, differential equations and linear algebra as well as serving as the only official Physics tutor employed thru the university - all of which constituted 20+ hours of drop-in-center tutoring per week. Additionally I provided independent tutoring to students from middle school thru college on a weekly basis as well as proctoring Physics laboratory classes and serving in a substitute role when needed for college level Physics courses. I have a strong and calm approach to tutoring that has been consistently admonished as being effective and respectful, guiding students to a stronger understanding of methodology and fundamentals underlying a subject rather than simply providing a method to “make the grade.”

While earning a BA in English at Reed College, I gained valuable experience in researching and writing essays on the variety of subjects required for a liberal arts degree. Within my own major, I continually practiced literary interpretation and criticism, argument development, and editing. I have also broadened my knowledge of English grammar through teaching English as a Second Language to Spanish and Italian speakers. This past year, I have tutored elementary students in reading, English, and mathematics.
I enjoy tutoring children one on one. Many children have difficulties in school because of low confidence levels, which are reinforced in the classroom by very little individual attention. I believe the more comfortable a child feels in her/his learning environment, the easier she/he will learn. As a tutor, I try to ease academic pressure by developing a relaxed, supportive rel ... read more

The past ten years for me have been spent teaching English and theology in a third-world setting in Africa, Nigeria to be specific. I have been responsible for organizing and overseeing the curriculum as well as classroom teaching since 1998. I was also a teacher at a Community College in Dallas, TX for a year. During my undergraduate degree, I was involved in tutoring English and math for students who were struggling. I feel that my academic knowledge as well as the practical experience I have gained over the years qualify me to help tutor students in English and math.
I am a strong believer in the Socratic style of teaching which, as you know, helps students themselves to think through issues and problems and discover the answer as we move along. I have always enjoyed leading students to that 'eureka' moment where they have grasped a difficult idea or concept, put it in thei ... read more
