After graduating from high school as valedictorian, I earned a Zoology BS and a Studio Art BA from SUNY Oswego, successfully completing English composition, speech, visual arts, biology, zoology, chemistry, Spanish, and calculus II courses, and graduated with a 3.76 GPA. Prior, I had taken and earned over a 90% in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and AP calculus. While completing an MFA from WCSU, I began 3 years of service as a tutor with NY GEAR UP of The Research Foundation of SUNY, providing academic assistance to students, grades 9-12th in core and non-core subjects, as well as Regents, SAT, and ACT exam prep. Being a tutor for grades 6-8 was different because they had the basics. They needed to be informed and focused. I believe effective learning can occur in a 1-on-1 tutoring situation when the tutor and the student can communicate well. Tone, mood, and setting all come into play. A tutor who is relaxed, cheerful, encouraging, and resolutely intelligent is more likely to be approachable and someone the student will collaborate with successfully. I believe in active listening and working together to establish a method of studying.
I took high school and college seriously. After college I worked for several years before attending law school. After law school I decided to combine my legal experience with hands-on medical skills, and I enrolled in a Registered Nurse program at SUNY Delhi, which I will complete next May. I attended several schools to achieve my undergraduate degrees, both of which I worked hard to excel at the University level. Attending graduate school at Binghamton University truly prepared me for academia, requiring many research papers and essays as well as honing my knowledge in psychology, the arts, human development, english, and biology.
