I am an Intervention Specialist in a local school district where I teach 8th graders, but I have experience with working with individuals kindergarten through adults I am certified to teach k-12 where I am Highly Qualified in Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies. I have tutoring experience with dyslexia students. I also have experience working with students with emotional disturbances. Before I became a teacher I worked in the corporate world where I was a trainer.

I try to take a hands-on approach to teaching when possible. I find it helpful to use varied and often unusual objects and materials when teaching a lesson; it tends to make the material more memorable. However I am not above using the standard pencil/paper/textbook approach when needed.
I consider myself to be a "beginner" teacher as I have recently graduated college and received my license. I have spent roughly 500 hours in the field as a result of college course requirements, and I have successfully completed a 12 week internship (student teaching) experience. I have had the opportunity to work in many different subject areas and classroom settings with students of various backgrounds, ages, and learning styles.

I believe that the most important role of an educator is to be able to recognize the learning style of the student. Once this is established the student can be successful. All students can learn given the opportunity and appropriate tools necessary to achieve their potential. I also believe that learning must be fun for students to actively engage in the process. I graduated from Ohio University in 1978 with a BS in Education. I went on to earn a Masters degree in Educational Administration. A Little Bit About Me...

The first thing that I like to do as a teacher is tell my students why I chose my profession. I think a little insight as to who I am, lets my students know how passionate I am about my job. All students do not learn in the same ways, nor do they learn at the same paces. It is my job to build upon my students' strengths, and make them believe that they can succeed.
I received my BS degree with the intent of gaining a MA in teaching. While I was obtaining my MA, I performed as a substitute teacher in several school districts. I had access to 2 long-term teaching positions. The first was for high school special education in history and the second was for 8th grade language arts. I did teach 1 full year as an intervention specialist for a junior high.
