I have been tutoring in various subjects for 3 years. 2 of those years were in a university setting, in a university sponsored learning center. Through this job, I received training each semester on dealing with learning differences, learning disabilities, and communicating complicated ideas in a manner that is easy to understand.
I use open-ended questions and try to break tasks into manageable steps until the student has a good grasp of the topic. I almost never just give answers away, because that doesn't help you learn; I will walk you through the steps and give you reassurance when you are on the right track.

I began working in Tangipahoa Parish February of 1983. I tutored in the Migrant program When our school moved I moved to a 6th Grade class where I taught self-contained, team taught, etc. When we moved, once again, to a new school I with Mrs. Deborah Ellzey as a team-teacher. I have a BS in Environmental Science with a Chemistry minor. I also have a MS in Environmental/Soil Science. As a NASA scholar and Research Assistant, I taught undergraduate students Soil Science Lab Classes. I have tutored Elementary level reading and writing as a volunteer. I have also tutored Middle School level Math to several students. I am a substitute teacher in Louisiana and I am currently working on my teacher certification.
Because I am a very patient and detail oriented person, I feel it is best to adapt my teaching style to the student's learning style. I would first make that evaluation to determine how best to approach teaching the student. I enjoy using hands-on examples and Powerpoint presentations in teaching. I feel that one-on-one interaction will always help a child gain knowledge of a subject.
