Biology is one of my top subjects!

I feel the best way to teach is to put yourself in the student's place. I realize that most science material is totally new to the student so the teacher must not assume that the student just "knows these things." You have to start from square one and explain the concepts thoroughly. The teacher should never move on to a new concept until the student has mastered the previous concept.
I am a retired teacher who taught various science courses for 25 years in the Jefferson Parish Public School System. Over the years I have taught biology, chemistry, earth science, physical science, and even pre-algebra. I have a proven track record of results in science education. Many of my students have gone on to have excellent careers as doctors, nurses, dentists, and other science-related disciplines. Also, I can speak a little Spanish although I do not consider myself bilingual.

I have always been driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I have earned two bachelor degrees in both Chemistry and German, which enabled me to gain an understanding of math and science from the reading of the original scientific papers in German;a better understanding of English(a Germanic language)also resulted. Working as an analytical chemist for the federal government for over 25 years caused me to improve my writing and English skills as a substitute teacher for over 12 years I feel I have gained enormous experience in working with all types and ages of children. I began working in Tangipahoa Parish February of 1983. I tutored in the Migrant program When our school moved I moved to a 6th Grade class where I taught self-contained, team taught, etc. When we moved, once again, to a new school I with Mrs. Deborah Ellzey as a team-teacher. I taught Math, Science, and Social Studies. I have continued to teach with varying class situations in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade subjects and am currently teaching 5th Grade Math Enrichment.
