Drawing is one of my top subjects! I have a Masters of Art Education from The Ohio State University. I have taught Elementary visual arts for over 33 years, I am proficient and able to teach painting, drawing, print making, relief sculpture, weaving, and other fine arts children would enjoy. I also would incorporate art history and introduce artists who are relevant to the concept being taught.

The arts teach children to make judgments about their environment without a right or wrong answer, and that there are many ways to look and solve a problems. Art is a way for children to express themselves without words in the literal form or numbers as only measured on standardized tests. Meaning the limit of our language does not limit a child’s cognition. I believe the arts teach children to observe and solve problems from many perspectives. Art enables us to have experiences that no other source does. It should be relaxing, hands on, enjoyable, and also a learning experience. I would allow the student to help decide what he or she is interested in working on and learning about in the arts and take our journey from there.
I am a retired Art Teacher, with a current Ohio Teaching license and 33 years experience teaching Elementary Visual Arts. I am interested in teaching art to st ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a working graphic designer for most of my life after graduation from Ohio State. In Arizona I was assigned as an inclusion teacher for 9, 10 11th grade English. I had to accommodate diverse learners and plan instruction. I truly love the field of education. I recognize that all students learn in different ways. I know certain teaching methods work for some students and not others. It is important to teach in several different styles.

I am a doctoral candidate finishing up my third year in the Department of French and Italian at The Ohio State University. My major is French, with a specialization in second language acquisition (SLA), and secondary specializations in modern French culture and French cinema. In addition to my studies, I also teach French within the Department. In my five years of experience, I have taught the first four levels of French, in addition to intensive versions that combine two of the levels together. During the summer of 2008, I taught algebra and geometry to 9th- and 10th-graders in the Upward Bound program at Columbus State. Outside of school I have been tutoring for seven years. I have tutored subjects such as math, English, ACT/SAT prep, and creative writing. A Little Bit About Me...

Depending on the student I often start from scratch with analogies, diagrams, online tutorials, and simple practice on scratch paper. Usually students will get it after a few sessions, but there are many students that have to be tutored on a constant basis. I teach that effort is necessary for success. A positive attitude is good, but only if it is an afterthought of repetitive practice and focus. I would not tell a student "you can do it" if I knew they could not. Instead we would work together until they could do it.
While at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh I worked as a tutor in Mathematics and Shop. Much of the time the students did not have an adequate education in high school, so it was necessary to start from scratch. My other duties were to fabricate office equipment and search out tutorials to better explain concepts to struggling students.

Since high school I have been aware that I wanted to teach. I am currently pursueing a Masters of Education, and finishing one of my specializations, (French). I have taught for several businesses. I also taught for the Worthington Public School system as a volunteer and teaching asssistant.
I try to devote the day to getting kids interested in learning while covering the topics necessary. I cater to each child's needs and abilities and try to use their strength's to help their weaknesses. For example when teaching foreign language, if a child is not as strong in language as they are in math, I try to use formulas to portray language in a more concrete manner. I enjoy working with children of all ages and find that they enjoy working with me due to the enthusiasm I show them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with students. It is important that teachers see that children learn differently and really accommodate each child as an individual. I began by building a relationship with each child, so I know how they learn and what are all the interests. From there, I facilitate the teaching, by really letting the child learn his best way. I strongly believe in hands on learning, where the students are part of the learning process. The children learn best when they feel they have a voice in it.
My very first teaching experience happened during graduate school, as a second grade teacher. Here, I learned how to implement lesson plans according to state guidelines as well as student's focus. After completing grad school, I was a pre-k teacher for 2 years. I learned how to really teach through play, while considering the children developmental appropriate age. Currently, I work at a ... read more

I spend a great deal of time connecting with teenage fans of my work, guiding them in their own journeys as aspiring artists. I love inspiring young people serious about their artistic careers and eager to grow. Direction and critique are essential to any artist and I believe students thrive under a knowledgeable mentor who can identify areas that need improvement, give instruction and direction in how to do so, and offer artists’ work that will inspire them outside of the tutoring sessions. It is important to me to not just offer standard advice to every young person, but to look at each individual’s strengths, passions and goals, and then to create a path unique to them, helping them achieve what they want in the next step of their life.
I graduated with a 4.2 GPA from high school as a member of National Honors Society and National Art Honors Society. I won multiple college schol ... read more

I am a recent college graduate and I am looking for employment within my field. I have two years experience tutoring an elementary student.
