As a result of my post-high school studies in mathematics and business, I feel I'm suited to tutor people in those subjects. Statistics, quantitative methods, and analytical methods are my strongest subjects. Additionally, I have college graduate level skills in English/grammar, science, and social studies. Although theses were not part of my major, I do have above high school skills to share with those who need help in those subjects. My favorite aspect of coaching, teaching, and tutoring is the personal connection I build with my students. As a student, I did not adapt well to traditional educational settings, and so I seek to create a nontraditional environment for my students that involves kinetic, visual, and auditory stimulation. Finding my student's motivation to learn is key to my success as a teacher. I strive to make each learning experience new and meaningful. I began tutoring while in high school, as a junior and senior I would spend 2-3 afternoons a week at the Middle School helping the learning support classes write book reports. While in college at Slippery Rock University, I put up flyers around campus and worked as an independent tutor for five dollars an hour aiding my fellow students finish their final papers at the end of each semester. I feel that my degree in Creative Writing aids me greatly in tutoring because my ability to think outside the box and put myself in the writers shoes helps me to better understand their writing style.
