I obtained my BA in Social Work and have worked in that field since 1993. In 2005 I began a part time job as an Adult Education instructor for Sentinel Career Center where my primary focus was language arts/writing. I was part of the STAR reading program where I became certified to teach adults to read. In this program and as a GED instructor I have tutored many individuals of varying ages, education levels and backgrounds. In my work as a social worker, I work primarily with children with mental health issues/learning disabilities where the focus is on behavior, organizational,study and communication skills and parenting education.

I have a strong background in both science and the humanities. I am a National Merit scholar and hold a BS in Molecular/Cellular Biology and a BA in English from the University of Arizona, as well as a Master of Education (Secondary) from Arizona State University. After earning my BS and BA, I spent three years teaching English as a second language in Japan before returning to the States, where I taught at the secondary level for two years while earning my Master's. The 2009-2010 school year will be my third year as a substitute teacher. I have worked with all levels of students, from special needs elementary to AP high school courses, and in both urban and suburban districts. I had some training as an educator in college but have lots of real world experience as well. I have a deep understanding of research strategies and love all of the social sciences. I also am a parent to a third grader who recently tested into her school's gifted program and have plenty of experience supplementing curriculum to encourage the accelerated learner.
