I believe teaching is the key to each child's future. When presented with the chance to succeed, I believe each child will. I believe in presenting each child with a verbal and visual explanation of each objective. I then believe that each child needs the chance to complete a task with encouragement and success before independent work. Assessment should only be taken AFTER a child has experienced numerous chances for understanding, practice, and mastery. Flexibility is another thing that many students are not allowed in class, and I believe is very important to success. This is permitted in my classes on an as-needed basis. I obtained my BA in Social Work and have worked in that field since 1993. In 2005 I began a part time job as an Adult Education instructor for Sentinel Career Center where my primary focus was language arts/writing. I was part of the STAR reading program where I became certified to teach adults to read. A Little Bit About Me...

The 2009-2010 school year will be my third year as a substitute teacher. I have worked with all levels of students, from special needs elementary to AP high school courses, and in both urban and suburban districts. I had some training as an educator in college but have lots of real world experience as well. I have a deep understanding of research strategies and love all of the social sciences. I also am a parent to a third grader who recently tested into her school's gifted program and have plenty of experience supplementing curriculum to encourage the accelerated learner.
