Florida Writes Tutoring

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive). Florida Writes is difficult for some students. Give your child an edge by selecting a tutor today on your terms, on your schedule, to suit your needs and within budget.

I love teaching and learning new things and believe it should be a fun experience. I have an 8 year old daughter and a mother currently taking college courses so I have learned a great deal of patience over the years and developed a relaxed, happy personality. In 2005 I graduated from the University of West Florida, earning a BA in psychology with a 3.5 GPA. During that time I was vice president of an on-campus meditation group that lead people in meditation and relaxation techniques. I have assisted many people with tutoring for various types of academic and placement tests, e.g, ASVAB, ACT and SAT, as well as college placement tests for english and math. I have excellent proof-reading/grammar/writing skills and an understanding of APA and MLA formatting. I have experience working at a military base college branch as an advisor/field representative and have gained experience with f

My teaching-style is rigorous yet kind. My students say that no one has ever criticized their writing and thought so thoroughly and constructively. I'm known for my patience working with students with foreign-language backgrounds and other disabilities such as a lack of attention and focus. I learned from my professors at Swarthmore College (and a few at Penn) how to project a non-B.S. style, since kids tend to intuitively realize when their teacher has no idea what he/she is talking about. Coming from a family of teachers and professors (who have also been my teachers), I'm confident that good teaching is in my bones. I never use technology just for the sake of using technology. I became a published author of game reviews for a computer magazine at age 15. I worked at the University of Pennsylvania in Chemical Engineering under an Army Research Office grant, then as a software developer

I am driven to achieve a level of excellence in education. I have earned a bachelor's degree, a BA in Psychology with over thirty credits in science, which has allowed me to gain an understanding of math and science. During the last three years I have tutored and taught students in English, reading, history, mathematics, and sciences. I love teaching and working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. I am available to help your child find academic success. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. My goal is to provide the best education possible. I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and in providing a constructivist approach to learning. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. A few good educators can make a world of difference to a child's e

Both my parents are educators and have instilled in me the fundamental importance of education. I enjoy working with children and seeing them succeed on their own terms. I am willing to work diligently to see a child meet his or her educational goals. I believe that a comfortable learning environment makes learning fun for a child and also makes material retention longterm. I also encourage critical thinking and personal relationships to the material. Having moved between English, History, and Anthropology during my undergraduate years, I've surveyed quite an extensive portion of the social sciences. I have earned a major in Anthropology and a minor in History. The workloads for these courses included several 50+ page ethnographic reports in addition to the basic course curriculum. I've previously worked with children at the Kids on Campus program at OWC, teaching Songham Taek

Variety is good! I enjoy working with students of all backgrounds, personalities, and academic levels. I have come to realize that we learn differently. What works with one student may not work for another, so I try to stay as creative, open-minded, and instructionally flexible as possible. I have also realized that most students want to do their best but find it difficult with the distractions and hindrances of everyday life, so I strive to engage students' full attention though a variety of games, activities, and projects. What I love about tutoring (that traditional classroom teaching doesn't always offer) is that I am able to give my students 100% of my attention for the duration of the study period. Though I graduated with a BS in Secondary English Education, I have tutored and worked with students from elementary to secondary levels. From 2003-2008 I taught English and a littl

I teach with the belief that all students can and will learn if given the proper tools and motivation. I am sensitive to my students’ individual circumstances and needs, and I use my education and experience to teach my students in a way that makes information relevant to them. I believe it is important for our students to be able to relate what they learn in the classroom to the real world. If we make education relevant, students are more likely to remember what they have learned long after the grade has been given. My goal is to teach students how to think and how to organize information in a way that makes sense to them. I am a graduate of Florida State University’s nationally recognized program in Elementary Education. The program is recognized for the quality and preparation of its graduates, and I was a straight A student. In addition to completing the Subject Area Examination for

I enjoy working in both special education and elementary education. It think it is important to set a child up for success by doing what is needed to aid that student. Weather it be modified lessons or guided practice with the student so he/she can eventually work independently. It is important to teach skills and tips/techniques the student can apply to be able to complete the assignment on their own. I have modified work in a variety of ways depending on the individual students learning style. When appropriate, work is completed individual, small or large group. I enjoy hands on work that engages the student and creating themed lessons that encompass many subjects and concepts. I have a Bachelor of Science in Special Education – Specific Learning Disabilities and added an Elementary Education certification just to have the flexibility to move within these two fields. My style of teaching mathematics, science and Japanese is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. It is only through solving problems (for mathematics and science) and practice (for Japanese) that this knowledge becomes ingrained in a student so that they are confident to move forward. I began tutoring high school and college students in 1986. I have 6 children of my own who I have raised and taught science and mathematics. I worked 2 years as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida and was a volunteer instructor at Brigham Young University. I speak Japanese fluently and am semi fluent in German.

I began my teaching career by substituting and volunteering at the local schools. I then completed my degree in Middle Grades Education in Social Science. When I began teaching, I taught Reading 3 of the 5 years I taught and fell in love with it. I am currently trying to complete my Reading Endorsement and follow up with a Reading Specialist degree. I am a firm believer that all students can learn if given the proper tools and learning experiences. I utilize a variety of techniques and strategies to ensure my students learn to the best of their ability. I am very passionate about my students learning and very easy going. I have a great rapport with students I teach and will strive to make sure each student has the best education experience possible.

I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years. I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.

I hold a provisional Teaching Certification from the State of Michigan; I have begun the process of transferring it to the State of Florida. A Masters degree in Education is in my near future. Prior to moving to Florida I was a football and softball coach for close to 10 years while serving the school district as a long term substitute in several capacities including Elementary and Special Education assignments. The school setting is the perfect enviroment for character education. The combination of teaching academics and attitude together can lead a student on a path to success in all areas of life. It is my hope that students leave my care with a desire to reach their potential and be better than their peers.

I am a Harvard graduate who has always sought academic excellence. I have a bachelor degree in Government and a secondary degree in Economics. I have a lot of experience in research and writing as my first career after college involved business planning. I have worked as a tutor for college freshmen and I ran a non-profit summer tutoring program teaching middle school students math, science, English, and history. In addition, I made the Academic All-State team and won Scholar/Athlete of the year for the state of Florida in 2000. I truly enjoy working with students and helping them find that "eureka" moment when understanding a new concept. I am patient and really easy going when it comes to tutoring because I understand everyone learns in different ways and at different speeds. My teaching method involves teaching by basic building blocks and then using many real world examples so t

I believe that every child has the ability to learn, but each child has a different way in which they have able to learn. As a teacher it is my responsibility to find out and realize the best way for each child to be taught. As an elementary school teaching I have an expertise in all subjects taught between Kindergarten and sixth grade. I have experience teaching Kindergarten, First, Second and Fourth grade. For the past two years I have gone through extensive in-service work with my school district on reading instruction. I have experience teaching ESE and ESOL students, along with regular education students.

I truly believe all children can learn. I am very student-centered as I know that each child learns in different ways. I have a minor in Psychology which I use to help me understand the psyche of the child. Behavior is a very important aspect in learning and I employ Positive Behavioral Supports and an individual approach to every child. I am a strong believer in using real-life problems, manipulatives, and engaging activities that use all the senses. As a graduate from a rigorous teacher training program at USF, I learned many skills and techniques to to teach students of all ability levels and ages. I had many opportunities throughout my college career to practice and experience teaching students from large groups to one-on-one settings. I was a recipient of the Michelin Scholarship Grant which allowed me to go to local Title 1 Middle Schools and tutor at-risk students. I was also re

I believe in treating the students as people. I beleive in teaching to each students individual needs and helping them reach their full potential. I have been a private tutor for several years. I have tutored in English, Communications, Spanish and some Statistics. I absolutley love it. One of my best clients was making C's and D's in his English classes and was repeating English for the 2nd time when he met me. I was able to help him make A's and B's and he passed with a B+.
