A Little Bit About Me...

My experience teaching started when I worked for Northlands Job Corps Academy. The students that I helped usually came to me not for their classwork, but because they held an interest in learned how their computers and personal devices worked. I feel that most learning comes from performing an activity rather than being lectured, so I prefer to give students a chance to perform the work after I show them a few basics (supervised of course).
I am a Senior Computer Science major at Siena college; my programming experience covers a range of languages, although my strongest is Java. I am currently certified by CompTIA as an IT Technician (A+ Certification), and have built 5 personal desktops over the years for clients. I started tutoring in 9th grade, and continued until my freshman year of college. I tutored middle school and high school students in math, sciences, and social studies. In college I tutored in Level 1 and 2 French, Psychology, and College Level Algebra. I have tutored both male and female students, and have worked with people with reading and learning disabilities.
I love working with people, and have a lot of patience. I work hard to let the student work through problems themselves before assisting them. I like explain the problem to the students and then let them work on few problems on their own. I would then correct the problems that the students were working on and ask if they need any questions. If the students have questions or if they did not get the right answer I would then go over the problems together with the students and have them practice until they have the strategy down.
