I also applied and was accepted in the Thomson Learning program teaching ESL in South Korea for one year. I was also employed part time as a GED Test Proctor though Harrisburg Area Community College. I worked at Mathnasium for two years. Mathnasium is a math tutoring center for children ranging from kindergarten to graduating high schoolers. I taught everything from basic arithmetic to calculus. I tutored calculus at the college level. I independently advertised my tutoring services. I mostly tutored Calculus I (not including linear algebra).
I work as a one-on-one tutor. It is my teaching philosophy that the best tutor leads the child to discover the answer himself/herself. Thus, I employ various techniques to help the child think about the problem in a different way. For example, when teaching a child to do arithmetic, for example, adding 8, I would tell the child to add 10 and then subtract 2. This leads to quick math computation and a better understanding of math foundations.

What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education system. I have found this method to be very effective. The other method is patience. Students who strugge with their academic learning usually are having other areas of difficulty which may be social learning. Having clinical training allows me to make a more accurate assessment.
