My experience includes 2 years as a Youth Counselor for the City of Tallahassee (1999 & 2001). I find an interactive, Socratic teaching style in which I encourage the student to discover the answers on their own to understand why something works the way it does is a very effective approach for me rather than just lecturing, particularly for younger learners. I find it equally important for students to understand the why of what they are learning as well as the how and the what. In my experience as a tutor, I can definitely say that it is one of several enjoyable jobs that a college-graduate such as I can have.
