As a student I have always been very ambitious and excited to learn. I graduated from high school in the top 5 of my class and graduated from college with honors. I have earned a bachelor degree in Physical Education and currently have a valid Iowa teacher's certificate. Throughout my education I have gained experience in teaching and working in many different settings. I have worked in the classroom with students in elementary, high school, middle school, special education, and Montessori settings. I have also volunteered for the last year at an after school program which helps tutor at-risk youth. I believe education is very important to children, both now and in the future. I am firm, fair, and friendly. I adapt lessons to the student's learning style, bearing in mind what the student needs for success in the classroom. I make learning fun. In 2000 I volunteered in the local high school's journalism class because of my passion for writing. The following year I was offered a position as yearbook adviser, and I further developed my skills with high school students. Since 2004 I have been a private tutor, teaching all elementary subjects as well as most middle school and high school curriculum. In 2005 I began teaching annual writing workshops at Simpson College for 6th - 12th grade students. In 2006 I attended substitute teacher training, and I began substitute teaching in 2009. I have always been successful at teaching children to understand and believe that they can learn anything from hitting a baseball to doing algebra. Each child learns differently, as I have learned from my own children. Starting slowly and building on the fundamentals will open the child's eyes and give them the confidence to succeed. Children will learn if the teacher is patient and allows the child to see themselves as successful on their own.
