A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching and tutoring mathematics since the age of 15. I started working at a tutoring center where the student's ages ranged from 4-15. I then moved on to college where I studied math and computer science. I was a teaching assistant for Calculus I and II. My responsibilities included leading group tutorials and working one on one in the tutoring center on campus. At graduate school I taught Calculus I, II, and III as a standalone lecturer. After I graduated from the University of Chicago I was an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Algebra II is one of my top subjects!

Experienced Tutor with Expertise in Math and Social Science

My teaching style varies for each student, I try to tailor the work to how the student learns.
I have been tutoring students of all ages since I was in high school. I began by tutoring my own peers in math and social studies. I would also tutor children from 1st grade on up in all subjects. Once in college, I tutored college students and younger in many fields, primarily mathematics courses. Learning can be fun...if done the right way

Fun teaching methods. Reading simple books and signs for starters. Songs and learning the lyrics is a good and effective way to learn a new language
I lived my whole life in Damascus, Syria. Coming to the States every summer was very interesting for me, having the best of both worlds, my mother being from Kentucky, and my father syrian. Throughout my life, i never understood the value of being bilingual. Now i am very grateful for my upbringing and the education i was given. Arabic is a hard yet beautiful language, and one that will be spoken by all soon. I studied in the International school of Choueifat for 10 years, and for my senior year in high school, moved to a boarding school in Brummana,Lebanon. Sadly Arabic was not taught in that school, and thats when i came to appreciation with the language we all take for granted.

After earning a Masters Degree in Math from UK, I accepted my first teaching position at Northern Kentucky Community College where I served as chair of the Math Dept from 1962-66. I returned to UK to pursue a doctorate in math and was assistant to the chair of the math department. During this time, I taught 2 undergraduate courses per semester from 1966-77. In 1977, I became Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, a position I held until I retired in 2005. While serving as Assistant Dean, I often taught evening classes composed of both undergraduates and non-traditional students.
