I have a bachelors degree in biology from Augusta State University, and I am currently a third year medical student. I have tutored biology majors and nursing students in the past with great results. I have taken the SAT, MCAT, and USMLE Step 1, so I have plenty of experince taking national examinations.
Since memorizing usually helps for short term memory, I create ways to understand and remember ideas that are easy and fun to learn. By using methods used by World Memory Championship competetors and by star Kaplan instructors, I make remembering easy and painless. With this method, it is harder to forget what you learn!

A Little Bit About Me...

Graduated cum laude from the University of West GA with a BS in biology. While there I was a member of TriBeta, a biological honors society, and lead biology workshops designed to help first and second year biology students get a better understanding of the fundamentals of biology. I also worked in a research lab isolating and mapping DNA from a local fish population to better understand why populations of certain subspecies were declining.

My comments on tutoring GED : This is my specialty. I have MANY Books, websites, printouts, etc. to help. I have worked with a dozen students from high school to 60 years old. I can give references. I can help those who have taken the many prep classes offered at high schools and learning centers, yet still failed to pass the test.

I excel at identifying each students strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. I can quickly adapt or create lessons as needed. Most of my students look forward to our time together, as we have fun, but get our work done.
I homeschooled my three daughters for 10 years, right through high school. All three have gone on to Colllege and have excelled, making the Dean's list. In the work world, two have been highly praised for their writing skills. After homeschooling, I began tutoring. I have over 5 years experience and have tutored elementary, middle school, high school, and college students, as well as adults preparing for exams such as the GED. I am experienced working with students who have IEP's and learning disabilities. Call or text at number below to discuss your needs.

2004-2011 GED Instructor for Greenville Technical College and Greenville County Schools. I was the teacher and leader of a satellite GED class based at Berea First Baptist Church in Greenville SC. In addition to designing and teaching daily lesson plans, I assessed students' aptitude for our program through placement testing. My responsibilities included keeping records, reporting regularly to our supervising agencies and working with volunteers. I enlisted, trained, and scheduled volunteers from the church to assist in class and also arranged tutors for students needing individual help. I served as the liaison between the church and the class in terms of scheduling, facility needs, and class needs, and promoted the class to the church and community. I enlisted donations from the church for student scholarships, snacks, and gifts for achievement recognition. Most importantly, I s ... read more

With my Bachelor's degree, I began tutoring through Reading Success and conducted private tutoring of Georgia History. I progressed to teaching English, Spanish, and some Special Education Resource classes at the High School level, and continued to teach lower level English classes at a local college along with reading in an Adult Continuing Education program through another college. My writing skills have been sharpened as I edited and wrote articles for newsletters, newspaper releases, and in an administrative capacity.
I enjoy teaching and do my best to make learning fun and easy for my pupils. I approach lessons by letting the student realize how and why the lesson is important and how it relates to their lives. I firmly believe everyone can learn; the style in which they learn may differ from others, but given the correct approach, all teachers/tutors can be successful.

As a parent of four, educator, education advocate and mentor, I have spent most of my adult life working with young people in various learning enviroments. I have a love for and commitment to educational preparedness for students of every learning level. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree, the Master of Social Sciences degree, a Master of Arts degree, and will receive the Ph.D degree in Educational Innovation and Human Development in May 2010.
My teaching style is highly interactive and engaged. The relationship between student and teacher is based on mutual respect for our respective capabilities. An important first step in teaching, and particularly in introducing new material, is to construct a frame of reference familiar to the student, and then begin to expand that frame to enhance conceptualization and mastery of new skills and knowledge.

I enjoy working with children of all ages. I believe that because each child is different, they learn differently, and therefore I must find a teaching style that helps that particular study achieve their maximum ability. I understand that some students are more visual while others may be auditory. I consider myself to be patient and understanding, and I believe that all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate tools to assist them. I strive to make a difference in all of my students' lives.

As a teacher I witnessed first hand the challenges students face in public schools. Due to the importance placed on standardized tests, students are often taught with a single focus in mind. Often times the different needs and learning styles of students are overlooked or ignored completely. I, on the other hand, prefer to take a holistic approach to education. Student’s goals should be clearly outlined and data driven. An individual learning plan should be designed for the student based on his or her strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. This plan should elicit student investment and should allow for teachers and tutors to measure both mastery and growth of the student.

I believe that all students have the ability to learn but not in the same way and on the same day. It takes work, but a teacher needs to find what works best for each student to learn. It is essential to utilize the multiple intelligences as well as theories on how boys and girls learn differently. I work well with parents and students, breaking down barriers and working within the parameters that work best.
I have a extensive background with teaching and implementation in education. My most current position was the Executive Director of School Improvement and Sales. I have experience analyzing data, working with teams to improve student achievement using research based interventions. I have experience from Elementary to College level.

I started substitute teaching when I was in undergraduate school just as a source of income and because I like teaching. My mother is a retired teacher who taught for over 30 years. I work as an engineer but I always find time to tutor. I have tutored with an SES program and have found that this worked really well. Focusing on how the children learn as a method to approach how they should be tutored is very effective and the children learn.
I have substitute taught for over 16 years and this past year I worked with the SES program tutoring. My areas of focus are sciences and maths but I have had to tutor reading. This year I tutored middle school students but I have tutored elementary as well. I tend to focus on the high level maths and sciences often taking long term positions in high school.

My goal is to teach high school English. I have several years experience working with youth in teaching roles, including tutoring both math and english. For 11 months in Ecuador I taught English, Health, Phys. Ed., and career skills to elementary school working children and literacy to their parents. Other experiences include 6 weeks teaching project management and career skills to high school girls in DC, 6 months teaching at a special ed. school, and 5 summers as a head counselor for kids with a variety of disabilities. I also took 24 credit hours of painting, drawing, sculpture, and art history classes in college.
I believe that every child has a natural desire and ability to learn. When I teach I focus on the students' interests and give them as much free choice as possible in order to encourage their natural sense of wonder and to maintain a warm environment. That said ... read more
