A Little Bit About Me...

Having always pursued excellence in eduation, I graduated from the Univ of Colorado with a 3.5/4 in Mech. Engineering. I then worked for Motorola in Phoenix, where I received security clearances for work for the military. Although I enjoyed my work, I realized my true passion was teaching, and earned my certification at the University of Phoenix. My student teaching at a local middle school in Phoenix was successful, earning special recognition. At Heritage High School where I taught, I was trained in a progressive teaching method for algebra. I have left the workplace to care and educate my children and I have used different techniques to meet their education needs. I starting my first year of teaching Terreton Junior high and elementary. I was a special ed teacher there I taught kids from k-8 and I taught a special algebra class for 7th graders. I really enjoyed working with algebra it not only helped them to understand it, it helped me understand it also. The next year a taught autistic children in Ammon elementary school. It was a great learning expierence.
I have learned that by observing students and getting to know them you can find the way they learn best. I believe in looking at problems from every angle. So teaching in several different ways to help the student understand the problem even better.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to first get an idea of what the student knows about the problem.. I find that the more time I spend listening to what they know it naturally turns into what pieces I need to add-in. Unless they came to the session to learn new material that would be a different scenario entirely in which it would depend on the student how I taught. I would have to find out what type of a learner they are. Whether it be a visual learner, if they need examples or are an entirely conceptual type of learner.
Throughout college I had extensive experience working with classmates while we solved math equations and physics problems together. I did volunteer work teaching English to children in Mexico as well as teaching English to college age students in Mexico.

I have a love for children and for learning. I believe in being patient and encouraging children to learn. I have learned in my dealings with children that they respond better when they feel that I have a genuine interest in them. I have worked with children with Autism. They are a special challenge, but have helped me to develop more patience and understanding. As a mother I have an appreciation of gentle firmness and consistency and have a desire to help children succeed. I believe in helping children find methods of problem solving that work for them.
I recently earned my bachelor's degree in Chemistry. I was in advanced math classes and have studied up through Calculus, testing out of an Algebra II class. I am a kid at heart. I understand and relate to children of all ages. I believe that if you are patient with those that are trying to learn, and can find things that they relate to, teaching becomes easier for everyone involved. I have found success in the past with helping youth, and am confident that I can earn their trust enough to assist them in their studies.
I had a son with some special needs. I had to help him with his math throughout most of his junior high and high school years. From time to time, other students in my neighborhood have asked for assistance with their school studies. Assisting them when needed is something I have done several times over the years.
