I tutored in my last semester of college at Westfield State University. I have taken 122 credits in psychology. My psychology G.P.A. average is 3.74 and my overall average is 3.551. I have helped students excel at college-level classes where some students were failing. I am part of the international honor society in psychology. I love helping other people. Although I only have a bachelor's degree, I have helped many students at college excel at their classes and achieve A's when they were struggling.
I usually allow the person to come to me with questions and ask me what they are struggling on and help them from their or review the basic concepts and say them out loud to the person I am tutoring. First teaching job was in a school for severely autistic children. After being there for a year I taught in a residential home for boys. This was challenging but probably one of my favorite jobs as a teacher. Because of the distance from home to work (about 1-1/2 hrs.), I applied at an urban school 20 minutes from my home. My first job there was managing the Young Parents Program. This was a program for high school girls who were pregnant or had already had a child. This program allowed the young girls to attend school. Due to budget restrictions it was cut. I was offered a position as a special education teacher in the high school. I use word games, flash cards and drill. I love working with the little ones as they are enthusiastic and show the most progress. Some youngsters need more visual stimulation. Games are a great motivator, as the children are learning without feeling that they are doing school work.
