More About This Tutor...

My style of teaching really depends on the student and his/her learning style. Different students learn in different ways. I believe it is my responsibility to find which style works best for the student(s).
First teaching job was in a school for severely autistic children. After being there for a year I taught in a residential home for boys. This was challenging but probably one of my favorite jobs as a teacher. Because of the distance from home to work (about 1-1/2 hrs.), I applied at an urban school 20 minutes from my home. My first job there was managing the Young Parents Program. This was a program for high school girls who were pregnant or had already had a child. This program allowed the young girls to attend school. Due to budget restrictions it was cut. I was offered a position as a special education teacher in the high school. I have been doing that for the pas ... read more

For the past fifteen years, I have pursued my aims in the field of higher education. Most of my teaching experience has focused on children with special needs; however while studying at St. Joseph's College, I was particularly attracted to the subject of Reading. Immediately after receiving the Master's degree, I enrolled in the Six-year program in Reading at the University of Connecticut.
I truly enjoy working with children, and I welcome the challenge of working with students who struggle with reading. I regard reading skills as the key to success in the educational process, and I believe that given the proper encouragement, all students can achieve success in this area. I strive to be a catalyst in their success.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent graduate from Framingham State College, I have chosen to dedicate my life to helping others learn. I have chosen to teach young children because I aim to create the foundation for loving to learn in their early years to build upon in their future years. I earned a BA in Educational Psychology and a BS in Early Childhood Education with a Massachusetts Teaching License to teach grades Pre-K to 2. I am currently obtaining my Connecticut Teaching License for Nursery to 3. As an undergraduate, I volunteered as a tutor in a third grade classroom and worked as a tutor for 3 years with at-risk freshmen students who needed guidance and transition into college by tutoring all subjects. I also was a Teacher's Assistant for a Psychology course where I tutored students and taught one lesson. I am currently working as a Preschool Teacher in a Bright Horizons Center.

I am a strong believer that children all learn differently. I consider myself a visual learner, but try to teach to cater all different learning styles. I believe children learn best when able to relate to the material in some way. I try my best to discover the individual child's learning style and personal interests early on and then adjust my approach accordingly. It is then that the student becomes confident in learning, which promotes success. I also believe that learning is very active on both the part of the teacher and students and that tutoring is a shared experience. My background enables me to first develop a relationship with the child, show them support, and then dive into the academics together.
I have worked with children all of my life. I earned a bachelors degree from Skidmore College in 2008 with a major in Social Work and a minor in Early Childhood Educatio ... read more

I have many positive experience teaching children. I have learned much of my teaching style through the children that I have taught. I am an ambitious, organized teacher that believes many children strive with structure. I also believe that making things fun for children is the way to go. Working with children that have disabilites has given me many different avenues of teaching basic learning tools. I enjoy watching children develop their skills in each subject.
As a special educator I have had many different experiences with teaching. I did my student teaching in a self contained classroom with 9 developmentally disabled children. More About This Tutor...

I recently graduated cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with two Bachelors of Science in Marine Geology and Maritime Law. I teach sailing and environmental education in the summers. This means very little however as I aspire, one day, to become a lighthouse keeper. Sadly, few can find such a position these days. I enjoy writing, science, mathematics, literature and most all music.
When I taught sailing to young kids, I used to dress up like a pirate. I have lots of energy. I know I'm doing my job right when kids start laughing. When I taught to teenagers, I kept in mind my own experiences at that age. If I'm helping a student study hard on that big, important test that might have the ability to crush the student's soul - I bust out my acoustic guitar and sing about how It's The End of The World As We Know It (And This Test Means Very Little In The Long Run ... read more
