My comments on tutoring Language Arts : I have taught Language Arts to my children for the past 17 years, including English, grammar, composition, expositiry writing, creative writing, spelling, vocabulary development using Latin and Greek roots, and listening skills.

My teaching style is very hands-on, involving pictures, manipulatives, and tactile modalities. I like to use a dry-erase board to demonstrated concepts as well as allow the student to practice. I take them step-by-step through a new concept, giving a lot of verbal positive reinforcement to praise effort as well as achievement.
I received my training from Cedarville University, Wright State University, Plymouth State College and Keene State College. I received my BA from Cedarville University in Elementary Education with an Emphasis in Special Education. I completed more training through a teacher mentor program through Plymouth State College to gain my Special Education certification in NH. Meeting students where they are academically ~ 15 yrs. exp.

I have taught middle school language arts for 15 years in both public and private schools. I excel in teaching young people how to write clearly, completely, and concisely. While I can teach them grammar, punctuation, spelling, organization, and research skills. CONTENT often comes from the heart rather than the head. I have had several of my students win awards in writing completions. One struggling 8th grader worked so hard that he was accepted into an Honors English Class his freshman year in high school.

Recent Graduate Looking To Help

I am a recent graduate of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania (May 2011). I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in creative writing. I also have a minor in photography. During my time at Mercyhurst College, I worked as a writing tutor in the school’s writing center. When students entered the center, it was my job to immediately make them feel comfortable by greeting them with a friendly smile and asking what I could help them with.
