I base my teaching on the pholosophy of Eli Siegal: "Aesthetic Realism". It states that "All beauty is a making one of opposites, and a making one of opposites is what we are going after in ourselves" Thus, I relate the subject matter in hand to students' personal lives. For example, if we are learning Le Chartelier's Princlple, which concerns the response of a chemical reaction to stress, I have my students discuss the types of stress they experience, and their responses. We compare this to the beautifully precise and appropriate reaction in Chemistry, where the response is never inapproriate, insufficent or in excess. This method has also taught me that I have much to learn from my students and their life experiences. .

A Little Bit About Me...

During my undergraduate career at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I obtained a wealth of knowledge in the fields of math and science. I did this by striving for excellence in the classroom and participating in cutting edge research with professors in the Entomology and Organic Chemistry departments. My extensive knowledge of the subjects I’ve studied has allowed me to assist my friends in understanding complex and difficult problems. This past year I privately tutored classmates in both Statistics and Organic Chemistry.
I believe the best way for someone to learn something is through application and repetition. As both a tutor and youth lacrosse coach I have had success by teaching my students how to approach problems rather than simply giving them answers. I am extremely patient and am very willing to take alternative approaches in helping a student learn.

In May 2009, I graduated from Mount Holyoke College as a biochemistry major with Magna cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa distinction. At Mount Holyoke, I was a General Chemistry laboratory teacher's assistant. Also, I was an Organic Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry II tutor to sophomore and juniors enrolled in the course. After graduating, I provided SAT tutoring for a student. I also gained experience teaching as a long-term chemistry substitute at Agawam High School. These tutoring and teaching experiences have inspired me to pursue chemistry teaching as a career. I am enthusiastic about helping students feel confident in their science abilities, cultivating an interest in science, and encouraging students to pursue science academically.
