A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experiences include college faculty member and home school teacher for my four children. They graduated from the Independent Study High School University of Nebraska, participated in Running Start and are all college graduates. I was also a 4-H leader for over twenty years and instructed many youth. As a community organizer, I developed public education and outreach programs. This involved teaching and mentoring people of all ages, pre-school through senior citizens. Currently, I am a school nurse for a middle school where I work to assess barriers to student learning.
As a teacher, I work to build my students’ self-confidence through positive interactions and effective problem-solving. I believe that every person has the capacity to learn. I have worked in Mathematics Education for the past 25 years. I worked with elementary and middle school students for the first five years I taught. I then taught high school math for 1 year and have since taught adults at the University level. I spent 17 years at Heritage University and throughly enjoyed my adult students. I now teach for Yakima Valley College and enjoy these students too. I have two degrees, a BS in Math and a Master's in Math Education. I have tutored many students in math also. I enjoy teaching children and adults of all ages, although most of my experience has come from teaching college age kids. I believe that everyone learns in different ways and one aspect of teaching I enjoy the most is working with someone to find the method of learning that is best for them. Once someone has discovered their method of learning it makes the process so much more enjoyable for both the student and myself.
