I have been teaching science at the secondary level for over 17 years. I have taught chemistry and advanced chemistry, Earth science which includes "GOMA" Geology, Oceanography, Meteorology and Astronomy. I have also taught physics for years and tutor for high school biology exams. While in Virginia 95% of my students passed the Virginia test for Chemistry.

I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University. Throughout my four years of attending, I have had a lot of experience teaching through my practicum classes and through student teaching. I have taught students from grades K-5 and have taught small groups and large groups.
I am one who believes that children learn in different ways, and through different strategies, a teacher can help students find their best way to learn. Students who struggle with learning may just be not interested in what is being taught. I like to find out what the students are interested in and try to incorporate that into the subject area so they can be enthusiastic in the subject and be more wiling to learn. Learning can be fun and I want to make it my job to help make it possible.

In groups, I like to have many examples and participation from the audience. As a manager and mentor, I also prefer to teach a concept and return to it when the student has an opportunity to use it in their work. It is important to be able to adjust your teaching style to the needs of the student, and I love the challenge of being able to do this.
I have always loved to learn new things, and as a teenager wanted to be a teacher. I have a B.S. in Dietetics with a chemistry minor, as well as an M.B.A. My role as a dietitian requires the ability to teach all ages groups, with diverse backgrounds and educational levels. Young people learn through different ways and means. I try to discern the best method to instruct any particular student with whom I am tutoring at the time. I like to give examples of problems, and "problem solve" with the student through illustrative examples on paper or on the board. I encourage questions and feedback to ensure that the young person is indeed learning "how" to solve a problem, not simply to "get" a solution. A student's practical demonstration of problem solving is the best gauge to determine if that student is indeed learning or not. I achieved my BS in 3.5 years with certifications in Kindergarten and English for secondary education. I have employed multiple skills to teach many disciplines to students. My interest in Science and Technology encouraged not only students to learn, but other teachers to request my expertise.
