A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy tutoring those who are in Middle School or High school. I feel as though they tend to have a higher capacity for sustaining attention. Those are unique ages that can really build a foundation for later education. I believe that one-on-one time is essential in learning. Some people might learn well in a large group, but others learn much better when time is spent on explaing specific details. I find the most enjoyment when a tutee finally links the core concept and is able to solve more difficult problems on their own.
I am currently a Senior at Bethel College. I will recieve a bachelor's in Psychology at May 1, 2011. I have been tutoring since the summer of 2010. I learned much when I took the "Teaching Bookkeeping" class in college. I feel more than qualified to tutor a student in high school accounting, lower math, college accounting. Did all in 4 years yet I did not get my BS for 10 years. Classes not offered together at Defiance College and got them finished at Toledo University. I understand how pressing studying is and realize that tutoring a student is even much more important. Each student learns their way and I must lead them to realize the importance of learning the way that fits them. All can learn, it is important to find how to reach each of them.

Young people learn through different ways and means. I try to discern the best method to instruct any particular student with whom I am tutoring at the time. I like to give examples of problems, and "problem solve" with the student through illustrative examples on paper or on the board. I encourage questions and feedback to ensure that the young person is indeed learning "how" to solve a problem, not simply to "get" a solution. A student's practical demonstration of problem solving is the best gauge to determine if that student is indeed learning or not.
