My comments on tutoring Computer Programming: I am an expert at Computer Programming. I know several programming languages, both interpreted and compiled (including assembly language), as well as almost all of the basic and advanced algorithms. From control structures and loops, methods/procedures, sorting, stacks and queues, arrays and lists, objects, object extensibility, pass by value or reference, writing to and reading from standard input and output devices like keyboard, screen, and files, you name it. I've seen the concept before. Even if you're working with a programming language I haven't worked with before, I can still help you, because a programming language is just a set of rules, structures, a grammar, and a syntax. It is easy to learn any programming language. Your first hour of tutoring is free (even if you don't continue) so that you can see how much tutoring is really going to help you. So, let's get started soon!

If you watch me closely during our sessions, you can see me secretly paying keen attention to you and how you learn best. For example, you might say, "It LOOKS like they want me to factor here." And I'll think, "Aha! LOOKS. Maybe you're a visual learner and like to SEE things explained and SEE examples. (About 80% of students are visual learners.) On the other hand, you might say, "It sounds like they want me to factor here." And I'll think, "Aha! sounds. Maybe you like to HEAR things explained, and you're a keen listener and like to hear things described clearly and specifically. Or maybe you'll say, "I FEEL like they want me to factor here" (as you tap the problem with your pencil). And I'll think, "Aha! FEEL. Maybe you learn by intuition and need to just jump in and work a problem or two with me step-by-step and discover the pattern of what's going on and pick up the FEEL of it. So... ... read more

The underlying theme of my teaching is to excite and challenge students about the power and beauty of math and science. My approach emphasizes the aesthetics of rigor as a stepping stone to the development of new material within the context of existing knowledge, and students are encouraged to seek elegant methodologies wherever possible. I believe that successful teaching involves a careful combination of art and science, wherein technical skills are complemented by a kind and patient temperament that seeks to develop rapport with students across the spectrum of abilities. Moreover, a strong sense of personal enthusiasm should be demonstrated to students on a consistent basis for them to recognize how committed their teacher is. Respect for students as individuals must be shown at all times, even when they are poorly prepared and motivated, and teachers should set goals that will st

My experiences have spanned all ages and types of children's learning abilities. From a church setting, to a public school to a driver training car. As a substitute teacher, I worked on developing a good rapport with the students. And was always willing to assist them in working towards understanding the concepts before them. I am very patient and understanding with the children, because a stressful environment is not conducive to learning. I believe that a child should be able to learn while they are having fun and that positive reinforcement can go a long way towards helping develop good study skills. I have a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering and was a software engineer for over 25 years. In 2003, I was certified for Middle School Mathematics in Massachusetts. I have enjoyed being a substitute teacher over 200 days in various Middle and High Schools. I have worked for 20

For the past two years, I have been working as an adjunct instructor and tutor in mathematics and computer information systems for a local Community College. This experience has been so fulfilling, that I am diligently pursuing a career change from Information Technology professional to teaching. I also taught mathematics for one year at a private school. Students generally perform better with hands-on practice. I provide multiple opportunities for hands-on and guided practice as time permits. Associate new concepts to familiar ones. Our memories are largely associative in nature. Therefore, providing connections from new concepts back to well established ones increases our retention and recall. This is especially important in building up understanding in mathematics. Provide relevant examples. A student who is actively enaged in the lesson will learn more.
