My experience in tutoring is a mix of working with large tutoring agencies as well as local one-on-one at home tutoring services. I have worked with students on elementary school math and reading, as well as SAT and ACT preparation. My greatest experience was when I helped a particular student with her writing skills, not just by drilling and practicing, but by boosting her confidence. As a regular classroom teacher, I felt hampered due to class size. I was never satisfied connecting with just a few students. Every student was important to me. I realized that the only way for me to really reach students was by reducing the teacher-student ratio. As a tutor, I found that teaching smaller groups of students or one-on-one was for me.
