Microsoft Office is one of my top subjects! Many years experience using all versions of MS Office, with a focus on Word and Excel.

I have a fairly relaxed style, though I am flexible and can adjust to whatever will make the student(s) most comfortable.
I worked as an ESL teacher in Japan for almost four years teaching people of all ages, from toddlers to senior citizens. The opportunity to live in Japan, coupled with study in university has also given me an intermediate level of Japanese. In high school I also had a position as an assistant teacher at a karate dojo, working with large groups of children of all ages. Additionally, having studied and/or worked in Japan, the UK, New Zealand and most recently Australia, I have familiarity interacting with people from wide ethnic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds and can alter my teaching style accordingly.

As an undergraduate student at the University of Washington, I pushed myself to excel academically. I received a BS in Biochemistry and a BA in dance, allowing me to grow into a well-rounded individual. My science training allowed me to develop critical thinking skills that I have been able to apply to everyday problems, and share with the students i tutored for three years. What strikes me most as I look back at my education is how much of an impact a teacher can have when they make their subject relevant to their students. When I am teaching I try to find out what motivates each student as a person, in addition to what is motivating them to take the class. As it has evolved over the years, my teaching style has become a mix of facilitation and direct instruction, with the goal always being the student's making his own discovery. I was trained in the Socratic style, which seems to match well with inquiry-based learning, and that is how my classes usually end up. I introduce activities, then gradually release them to the students to lead.
