Elementary Reading is one of my top subjects! Teaching reading is another one of my favorites. It is critical that a child reads, and rereads. After getting a child through a page in a storybook, we go back and work on any words that I had identified as problematic for the child. I teach the child various decoding strategies, such as phonics, chunking, identifying smaller words, the silent E, etc. I then have the student reread that page. If there are still words that the student is having problems with, we work on them again, and then reread. With each rereading, I time the student and point out to him/her how much he or she has improved. Being able to clearly SEE progress makes such a difference in the child's overall attitude and motivation.

I've got around 8 years of college and university work under my belt, and I am getting ready to finish a BA in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. I love teaching. I got the teaching bug while teaching English as a Foreign Language in China. I taught there for almost 9 years altogether, 1 year in Beijing, 7 years in Tianjin, and 1 year in Taiwan. I now work as a substitute teacher for Lewis County Schools and I also volunteer in the school library where I help struggling students with reading.
I am very active in the classroom and I believe in making learning fun and enjoyable. There are so many ways to help children learn, yet many of them are not used for one reason or another. If information must be memorized, I like to put it to song or a rap. Other methods of learning that are very useful are concept maps, discussions, and performing. Another very s ... read more

“I am not a teacher, but an awakener.” Robert Frost

I use a creative, hands-on teaching style. I break things down and present them in simple sequence, so students don't become overwhelmed. I am very patient. I try to incorporate fun, imagination, and creativity into learning activities.
I am an educator with 27 years of experience. I have both taught and tutored grades K-12. I have a special needs, vocational, and assessment background. I love teaching and working with students. I am very patient, easy-going, and encouraging. My teaching approach is creative and imaginative. I use methods to make lessons fun and enjoyable. I believe in using "the whole language approach," which helps to reinforce several skills at the same time. I am able to communicate my thoughts and ideas very clearly. My philosophy is that any subject can be learned, if it's presented in the correct way.

Inspired Educational Help!

I first want to start out by saying that I have a passion for what I do. I have over seven years of experience as a tutor and mentor and it has been a very rewarding experience. I am currently a Secondary/Special Education Graduate student and am enjoying the process of learning more about the field. I received a BBA in Accounting and History in 2009, so I also have a background in Business. I will always be glad and willing to tutor in any class dealing with Business as well.
I consider myself a very patient tutor, which I think is essential to the process. That said, I usually offer the student a few options in which to learn the material. I then let them decide which option makes the most sense to them. I believe Education and learning is a very personal process, which is why it should be tailored to each individual differently. *I am available to help with homeschooling stu ... read more

I am comfortable teaching a group, but I also have ample experience working one-on-one with students. I believe that course material should engage students. I do not believe that rote memorization is practical in most real-world situations ... read more
