Experienced teaching students with learning differences

As an Intervention Specialist, I taught in an urban setting for five years. Presently, I enjoy being a substitute teacher in my local school district, Avon Lake City Schools and other districts near Avon Lake. I vary my teaching style. Some students are content with just reading while others need hands-on and visual experience. I truly miss teaching and mentoring kids. I approach teaching as an opportunity to bring out the maximum potential within each student. The 2009-2010 school year will be my third year as a substitute teacher. I have worked with all levels of students, from special needs elementary to AP high school courses, and in both urban and suburban districts. I had some training as an educator in college but have lots of real world experience as well. I have a deep understanding of research strategies and love all of the social sciences. I also am a parent to a third grader who recently tested into her school's gifted program and have plenty of experience supplementing curriculum to encourage the accelerated learner.
I believe that no two students learn alike and the most important thing is to make sure students are having fun with learning. I understand that each child and person learns differently (Auditory, Visual, Tactile) so I try to discover their style and incorporate as much as possible. I try to teach using real life experiences and examples. I break things down into simple parts before moving on to the next level.
