I believe that all children have the potential to learn and am a strong advocate of customized teaching. I am so drawn to the mathematics and sciences because I learn from working through problems and finding methods to solve them. When I tutor I tend to emphasize to the student to find a study method that works for them and adapt it to whatever they need to learn. I'm passionate about what I do because I've been through classes in subject matter that I struggled in or was disinterested in and I want to be able to help others feel more comfortable in math where they might be weak or unsure. I also realize that sometimes the issue is motivational not a matter of comprehension. I like to work through each type of problem step by step creating a blue print of what the student should be doing to solve each type of problem. I then repeat this with another problem of the same type. I like to go through every type of problem like this while they write the steps of how to do the problem down and then try to solve each problem step by step. I like to emphasize that they write neatly so they can see clearly what they are doing and what they have done so they can quickly go back through the problem and check for mistakes.
I have recently graduated from UNCW with a BS degree in chemistry. I have taken mainly math and science classes for the past three years. I have participated in many study groups and helped many other students who were in math and science classes by tutoring them.
