My comments on tutoring ASVAB : I'm proficient in tutoring/preparing students for the math, reading, writing, and vocabulary portions of the ASVAB exam (see more under my "test preparation" heading)! My most recent ASVAB student took his exam in Columbus a couple weeks ago and scored a 66 (prior to seeking my assistance, he'd scored a 24 and 18).

I am a big believer in real life examples and visual cues. I write every little detail so that one can always look back to their notes and have no problem revising. Courses such as biology and psychology are comprised of a ton of theory, therefore diagrams, frequent quizzes and examples play an integral part to learning. I describe the lengthy terms and processes by breaking them down, drawing and explaining the origin of the words. On the other hand, mathematics and statistics require consistent practice. When I substitute for a teacher, I want to see a lesson plan. I do not want to be the classroom babysitter. If there is no plan for the day I involve the students in making one. I'm currently working on obtaining my teaching certificate, to go along with my bachelors degree in Social Science. Hopefully, I will be able to go on to receive my Masters in Education. I have been able to tutor students in reading, sentence structure, English and American history.
I love teaching and interacting with today's young kids. They fascinate me. Every child has different learning systems and sometimes it takes several tries to reach that special spot that opens the child's eyes to what excites them about learning.
