Creative Writing is one of my top subjects!

I currently work in a PreK-12 School setting as a Certified School Library Media Specialist. I am responsible for teaching Prek-6th grade library/research lessons. When I am not teaching I am monitoring 7-12 students who are utilizing the library media cnter. I manage two library spaces, am the primary purchaser for books, technologies, and databases, and work closely with the administration team to meet and exceed curricular goals. Previously I worked in a K-6 setting with similar responsibilities. While working with on my Masters degree I substitute taught in several of the area school districts. Learning's only effective if it's fun.

I have a goofy, hands-on style. I try to make it fun. I am very strict, however, when it comes to grammar, respect, and completing proposed tasks. Obviously I have different styles for adults and children. My lessons are always custom designed with the client in mind and age-appropriate. I have an arsenal of materials and activities which I constantly draw from. I aim for a balance between games of all sorts and drills/assessments. I have to be very flexible and creative while teaching, and I enjoy it very much.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that education should present as much material to the student as possible, which includes using various textbooks, lecture, and inquiry. After that, it will be up to the student to assess and construct the information given in order to form his/her own opinion about the subject matter. True education and learning is ownership of the subject matter which comes through effort and discipline and a little bit of guidance.
Since April 2007, I have been a substitute teacher at both the Watkins Glen High School and Middle School. Frequent subjects include English, Psychology, and Physical Education. I belong to a writers group which meets at the local library every first and third monday. I belong to a chess club that meets at a coffee shop every Thursday. I also assistant coach varsity and college soccer during the spring and fall seasons.
