Unfortunately, many language classes rely far too heavily on worksheets, grammar exercises and dry readings not related to students' lives and experiences. Over the past 10 years I have had the pleasure of tutoring over 150 children. While receiving a Teacher Education Certificate, Human Services A.S. and a Sociology B.A., I have committed myself to scholastic excellence. In my work with The Boy's and Girl's Club, Americorps, Y.M.C.A. and the Hispanic Outreach Center I have completed more than 1000 tutoring session; in over 50 Schenectady Schools, community programs and public libraries. In each one to one experience, the child improved at least 2-grade level in reading comprehension and 1-grade level in math. Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. My style is marked with a belief in the student and I encourage them and acknowledge their progress.

I as ordained a Priest in 2004 but have twenty years of teaching from vocal/piano to languages. I am bilingual growing up with a father from Quebec,Canada and can easily tutor in French in both dialects. I can also tutor literature and reading. I love working with young people and see that as part of my ministry. And while my faith is extremely important to me, I am not looking to convert others. I just want the opportunity to help young people of any age.
