Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.

Community Service professional with years of private industry experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated interpersonal skills, and proven community outreach expertise. Skilled in educating individuals, coordinating resources and taking initiative in projects. An integral member of any staff, able to effectively serve organizational needs in building alliances and achieving stated goals.
In my experience as a teacher in the church,I have worked with a variety of students from young to old, from very intelligent to the mentally challenged. Thus I have learned to be flexible. Especially with composition, it is important to help students be able to write about what they see and feel. I think I can do that,

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and showing people how easy accounting can be and how much it helps you in real life situations. Most students get overwhelmed easily with double entry accrual accounting. I find it best to relate the material directly to the students personal life purchase and income habits. This way they can have a hands on approach and hopefully find the rules easy and helpful in daily financial situations.
As a staff accountant for a large, global corporation (sales revenue approx. $250 million/yr) I have very much experience in all areas of finance and accounting. I specialize in journal entry writing and reconciliations. I reconcile both bank account statements and account balances with my master bank reconciliation having approximately $40 million debits and credits monthly.

Since high school, I have been enamored with the Spanish language and the vibrant cultures of Spanish-speaking nations around the world. I have a BA in International Studies with a minor in Spanish, Spanish certification from the Complutense in Madrid, and 15 credit hours towards a Master's degree in Spanish Applied Linguistics. I have taught Spanish at Wake Tech Community College for the past six years, taught at Michigan State during my studies there, and also taught high school Spanish for two years.
I am a firm believer in the Communicative Approach to language teaching. It is not enough to give a student a list of vocabulary words to memorize and a chart full of verbs to conjugate. I believe in a hands-on approach with an emphasis on usable words taught in context. I stress speaking and listening exercises in order to ensure that my students be able to better understand t ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

When I approach a student I've never worked with, my first priority is to make them feel comfortable by letting them see that I am a very nice, friendly, and compassionate person that they might like to have as a friend. Next I try to get them to tell me about themselves in some way (what they've been working on, their favorite subjects) to try to encourage them to speak freely with me about what they're thinking. Then, after personal rapport is established, I begin my academic approach to tutoring by finding out how they think based on their interests or common themes, and I try to connect the material to these things. Children have trouble learning, often because the addressed concepts don't relate to their lives. I strive to connect the material to them, demonstrate its influence on their interests, and allow them to greet the academic engagement as some sort of useful tool, not a ... read more

My students have always found me to be extremely enthusiastic, thoroughly prepared, and genuinely concerned about their progress and success. I am very patient and encouraging, and I will keep working with students until they truly understand the material. I have had great success with students of all ages including those with learning disabilities. I know I have made a difference in my students' lives. One student found me a year after I taught his class and told me, "I would not have gotten my GED if it weren't for you, Mr. Uscher." Rewards like that cannot be measured.

I come from a strong background in community building and civic leadership. I was drawn to teaching by the simple pleasure of working with students and the joy of being able to pass on what I have learned with others. During the last couple of years, I have worked with students of a variety of ages and in a variety of settings. I have experience ranging from teaching high school history, to serving as a volunteer helping guide rising seniors through the complicated college application process. My teaching style is a mixture of direct instruction and discovery based learning whose components depend on the student(s) at hand. I've been known to make generalized lesson plans and improvise as I go, because every class is different, and too strict of a plan is destructive and boring for the students. Students typically need things explained to them in many different ways to garner a solid understanding of any topic, but especially upper level math and physics. Therefore, I pride myself on using any props, explanations, or examples that I can come up with to get the point across. At the same time, I tailor each lesson to the speed of the student(s) and the time constraints of the situation, varying the amount of direct vs. discovery learning accordingly, and making sure that the lines of communication between myself and the student are wide open so I can continually assess their ... read more
