Experienced,certified teacher who makes learning fun!

I am certified by the Arizona Department of Education in Elementary Education, K-8. My teaching experience includes 10 years of public school teaching. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th all subjects and middle school Language Arts. Five out of my ten years experience, was spent teaching 3rd grade which is my personal favorite. Language Arts is my specialty but I also enjoy Math and American History. Generally, my students love my teaching because they feel that I make learning fun.

Since I have a degree in special education and ESL, I have used many different methods of teaching. As a teacher I see myself as a facilitator. I want my students to be in charge of their learning, not me. I often ask a student “leading questions” instead of just giving them the answer. I also consider the audience when I am teaching. I ask myself...Are they familiar with our customs or not? Do they know our idioms or not?
I have a MS in Varying Exceptionalities. I also have 18 hrs of ESL. Currently, I am working on 18 hrs of English. I have taught pre-school through adults. I have taught many different kinds of students. I have taught international students, ESL students, and native speakers of English. I have worked in pre-schools, public schools, private schools, language schools, and colleges. I have tutored many different kinds of students from foster children to adults.

I am of the opintion that all students can learn. If my method of teaching is not working, I will pursue all methods available by communicating with my peers for ideas. My students learn my expectations early on ,then I am their facilitator. I prefer discovery learning and implement hands-on learning whenever possible.
In addition to my undergraduate degree, I have many graduate credits in education including elementary math,science and reading. I have taught full time in an elementary classroom for 14 years and substitute taught for almost as many. My experiences include tutoring at the elementary and high school level.
