Although I've never professionally tutored, I have experience teaching middle school groups about aquatic entomology and forest ecology at Clark's Reservation. LESSONS SHOULD ACCOMMODATE STUDENT LEARNING STYLES

I have 15 years of teaching experience with special needs students in a rural school district. During this time i provided private tutoring sessions for Elementary, Middle, High School and College students. At the college level my tutoring experience is with reading, writing, study skills and organization. Currently I develop educational programming for incarcerated youth.
My belief is that all students have different learning styles. Therefore lessons need to be individualized to meet student needs. I encourage students to ask a lot of questions about the material they do not understand. The student has already heard the lecture from the teacher or professor, so I feel there is not much point to just repeating the lecture. If students ask questions, they will be more receptive to the information that is given in the answers. I also like to use examples or demonstrations to relate the material to "real life", as opposed to just teaching abstract concepts. Above all, I try to keep it interesting for the student.
