A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored grades k-4 in Math, reading and english for the past six years in an after school program. I have studied child development to help me relate to elementary students. My experience in writing for a newspaer has improved grammatical skills.This endeavor has given me an eye for correctness and detail to insist on with my students.
My educational background in psychology and early childhood education has given me the insight to allow student to figure out things themselves with a little prompting. My most successful tutoring has been in explaining things the way a student might relate to his own experience. Allowing time for listening gives me clues to what that experience might be.

My love of mathematics began while I was in elementary school--I looked forward to those classes and took as many as I could from my high school, Wyoming Area. I had, at one point in middle school, helped to tutor some students in one of my classes. While in college at Susquehanna University, I had the priveledge of tutoring pre-calculus to local Selinsgrove High School students. I graduated from Southern CT State University in 2007 with a degree in Art Education. I have been teaching or substitute teaching in some capacity since my sophomore year of college. I have been exposed to several reading programs used in NEPA public schools. In addition to classroom experience, I have extensive experience working with students with ASD. I most recently worked as an ABA therapist. I am currently attending Misericordia University in pursuit of a Master's Degree in Special Education and anticipate graduation in December.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a retired school teacher that misses teaching children.I taught in a NJ public School for over 30 years. I actually taught in the same school district I attended as a child. My expertise is in 5th & 6th grades, but am available for grades 2-8. I have some science background and taught technology also.
I loved teaching! I think I retired too early because I miss the every day challenges and excitement teaching gives! I have been trained in 4Mat and Gardners Multiple Intelligences. I firmly believe "every child can learn" as long as you teach to their learning style. My daughter is following in my foot steps and will start her first teaching job in September. I truly believe if we show a child we care they can learn anything!

A Little Bit About Me...

In 2006 I was at my final step of reaching my BA in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English with only having left to complete my student teaching, but was taken by another opportunity. I moved to Japan and teach ESL and ESOL for almost 3 complete years. I taught from all ages two to adults, and learned many new skills, instruction and classroom management techniques, a new language and different ways to engage students in lessons. Most of my teaching and tutoring has been in the field of English from basic grammer skills to Chaucer. I have currently passed and am awaiting my NYS certificate as a teaching assistant and currently work in local schools as a substitute teacher.
