A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy being around others that love to learn. I pride myself in my skills and never turn someone down that is willing to learn. I believe that any student can learn what they want to learn if they are given a good chance and the right experiences.
I have been taking math classes since my freshman year in high school. Math is by far my favorite subject. I have taken everything from pre-algebra to calculus, including Statistics. I am currently working as a Mechincal Engineer and would love to assist others with their math needs. I am also very advanced in the use of AutoCAD/Drafting for Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, and Surveying. A Little Bit About Me...

One of the most difficult things about math is comprehending the concept. Many learn through repetition, or visual demonstration. I would think that my tutoring skills involve both. Repetition allows one to get an idea of what they are doing and it also helps develop questions. The questions help to get a full understanding of a concept. Sometimes to further complete understanding of a concept visual demonstration is needed. Based on my previous experiences in tutoring elementary school students, most of the time they really don't know the concept and are just going through the motions. If none of the two strategies mentioned above doesn't work I usually walk through everything slowly and find out where the problem is.

Students learn best from doing things. I try not to lecture, but to involve the student in the learning process. I can lecture, but I haven't found it to be as effective as other methods. I very much prefer tutoring to classroom teaching, mostly because I am helping people learn what they want to learn, and solve problems they are having troubles with.
I have worked part time as an adjunct instructor since the '70s, including 22 years with the Orlando Program of Florida Southern College, and 11 years with Valencia Community College.
