I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I love being able to help students feel comfortable with the material they are studying. I have tutored numerous times throughout college, and would like to get back into tutoring students because I find it to be rewarding. As a student who went from living in Germany and being taught that there are many ways of getting the right answer, to moving to America where everything is taught in one way, I have learned to incorporate my tutoring skills to the need of each individual student. I try to figure out what works best for every individual and help them focus on their strength and improve their weaknesses.

Biology is one of my top subjects! I hold a Ph.D. in biomedical science - focused on molecular virology.

I took a variety of Biology classes and Labs at WPI mostly focused on Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics. I recently finished my PH.D. where I studied control of viral gene expression. This work encompassed a variety of biological disciplines including virology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and molecular genetics, all of which I am quite experienced in. I also have experience teaching in a seminar format as well as in small groups. As a senior graduate student I was responsible for leading discussions prior to invited speaker seminars.

My style is dependent on the student. While the end result is having a student understand the material, the way of achieving this varies with each person. Some students require a lot of hand holding while some require a more hands off approach. To achieve understanding I will cater to the students needs.

I have been fortunate to teach biology to undergraduates for nearly forty years. I am passionate about making sure my students not only excel in the courses they take, but are prepared for a world in which the biosciences (especially the molecular biology of the genome & DNA!)will form the basis of medicine, the pharmaceutical industry, and major technological breakthroughs in environmental science. Teaching Style- That is an interesting question- since there are so many schools with so many different teaching methods I would like to see how the student was shown the particular method for "attack". It would also be helpful to compare that to the textbook directions; from there I will be able to develop a plan based on the topic and the individual student. I have had to recreate lessons for my son for years in order to develop a style that he understands. The student may have an idea for creatively learning this topic- I am always open to suggestions.
