My teaching style is straight and to the point. My goal is to make the kids understand that the only thing holding them back is themselves. Hard work and a desire to learn will win every time. I LOVE the moment when the kids "get it", when they become confident in learning.
When I entered college I was immediately drawn to tutor my peers as needed. I worked with the single mom's program at IVC and also did job coaching for the City of Long Beach Disabled program. Once I graduated from college I had the opportunity to join the Boys & Girls Clubs, specifically designing educational and technology programs. I enjoyed tutoring about 50 youth a day. As a result some parents requested that I run a special off hours program at their middle school to tutor the ADHD kids. Every child in that program raised their grades 60% over the course of the semester. Since that time I have honed ... read more

After having both tutored and taught in the classroom, I find tutoring to be more enjoyable. Since each student learns in a different way it is much easier to teach them one-on-one than a whole classroom full. I’ve always enjoyed watching their faces light up when they figure out a problem for the first time. I believe that tutoring is a very powerful tool because a lot of students need that extra push to succeed that they can’t get being in a classroom.
As a college student, I enjoyed helping others and began working in the tutoring center at Merced College. After I transferred to CSU Stanislaus, I worked both at the tutoring center and for a state program that placed me in one of the local high schools to work with groups of seniors with low math scores in order to help improve their SAT scores. After graduation, I was hired as a substitute teacher. However, the classroom setting ... read more

I have an informal, friendly style to my tutoring methods. I feel that having a comfortable and friendly environment helps the learning process. I use clear and simple language to explain the material. I also feel it is extremely important to be a good listener, to be fully understanding of the students areas of strengths and weaknesses. In my experience, I have found it helpful to have the students demonstrate what they have learned to determine proficiency.

I love teaching because it is a mission and an ideal. I believe only education can help us to construct a better world and a better future. I love teaching students who need guidance and dodn't have a tutor to help them with their day to day school work and prepare for an exam/test. Teaching is not only a matter of methodology but a perfect understanding between a teacher and a student. I believe I am able to bridge the gap between myself and my students and make the teaching process easy to achieve.

A Little Bit About Me...

I work well with children and adults alike. I enjoy the challenge of finding the perfect explanation for each individual that I works with their personal thought processes (as everyone thinks about things a little differently - that is the challenge of teaching). I believe that helping a person discover solutions through their own mental path is the best way to help them discover a long-lasting understanding of a subject. By providing assistance, patience and support in a comfortable and fun learning environment anyone can learn anything!

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a Corporate Finance professional whose true passion is math education. I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a Masters in Business Administration - Finance. In college, I worked as a Teacher's Assistant at my old high school and as a private math tutor for 1-2 years in subjects ranging from algebra to calculus. I also worked as a college math seminar instructor for 2 years, teaching college-level calculus. I helped many of my students advance in their math classes and actually made it interesting for them, so that they wanted to learn!
I truly enjoy teaching and working with all levels of math learners. I was blessed to have great math teachers in my education that transferred their passion for the subject on to me. Many students are very apprehensive when they enter math classes because the concepts seem so foreign. I feel the most important thing when it comes ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very unique. I start off by just getting to know the student and having them get to know and trust me. I then build on that trust factor while helping the students with their homework. I connect well with students and they trust me. In the end, it seems to be the best way the students I work with learn and finish their work. Learning should be fun and not boring. It should be interactive and not just book work. If a student can experience learning first hand, they're bound to acquire enough knowledge to help them succeed.

In college I was a nanny to three middle school students for two years. While being their nanny I was also their tutor in all subjects but focused on math. I graduated from SJSU with a major in History and a minor in Mathematics. I substitute taught in January and February 2007 then was a long-term substitute from March until the end of May in a sixth grade math, science, and history combination class. For the past two years I have taught eighth grade Algebra. While teaching I have also tutored a sixth grade student in math.
I believe there are multiple learning styles. One of my goals as a teacher is to find each students' learning style and teach to fit their needs. I believe that practice makes perfect but also that learning needs to be fun. I set the bar high for my students and do my best to help motivate them to reach a high standard.
