I studied high school math at my own rate as suggested by a math teacher. Math was cool. Found my mothers high school algebra book and worked all problems cover to cover. During my BS, made top of the class in many of my math classes. Before returning to graduate school worked 7000+ problems to improve myself. Utah State University Math/Stat Graduate PhD Researcher of the Year 2009 with GPA 4.0 in MS and PhD. My tutoring experience began while a student at BYU with Mark D. from ages 8-10. At 10 he scored at high school level in math. Did many guest lectures at USU. In 2010 tutored my son at Weber State University. The Algebra 1 grade went from fail to B. He is doing B work in Algebra 2.

My tutoring style is based on three principles: patience, excitement for the subject and alternative explanations. Through my tutoring experience and having children of my own I have been able to develop the patience to allow students to work through problems and gain their own understanding even when the process is lengthy. I enjoy math and the physical sciences and believe that bringing that excitement to the tutoring situation helps to motivate the student and give them the energy to succeed. Writing the essays, business evaluations and case studies was at times overwhelming to me but I was able to complete them in a satisfactory manner. The fact it was difficult helps me to project myself into the various viewpoints of my students so that I can impart to them a clearer understanding of the targeted subjects.
