My focus is on each student's unique needs and skills

The key to my tutoring approach is that every student is unique. After we discuss what each student wants to focus on, I ask them to write a paper about a subject that we agree on. Then I take them through several revisions, with each revision focusing on key things they need to work on. I often recommend that students practice creating sentences and paragraphs that focus on each separate concept or skill they need to become proficient in. I follow that procedure over several appointments in which they write additional essays until my students are ready to move ahead without my assistance.

American Sign Language and English Tutor

When it comes to language, I believe that people tend to learn best by doing. I also believe wholeheartedly that successfully learning a language depends on your exposure to that language. Continuous exposure to any language can help language acquisition. For English, regardless of what specifically the student is struggling with, consistent reading and writing practice is key. With a manual language like ASL, practicing signing skills and receptive skills is invaluable. Old Soldier who likes teaching English

I taught for 9 yrs at the 1159 US Army Reserve Forces School. I helped soldiers get promoted to SSG, SFC, & MSG by providing them with skills in writing correspondence, public speaking, lesson planning & class preparation for delivery in both a classroom & tactical (field) environment. I also provided remedial training for soldiers needing additional work in writing,lesson planning & class presentation.
I told my students there was no "wrong" way to present class material. They were told they would be videotaped & critiqued by their class members..BUT their presentation would be on their military specialty (eg. a Motor Pool SGT would do a class on vehicle maintenance)..thereby increasing the "comfort level" of the presenter & enhancing the knowledge of the class. The students would be taught to affirm each other & give each other positive "feed-back".
