School has been the most important structure in my life since I was a kid. My parents taught me that school comes first above anything else. I took their statement very seriously. I earned a 3.9 GPA at my university with Summa Cum Laude honors. I was a dedicated student who wants to help others succeed in school. I am a babysitter, which comes hand in hand with tutoring. I often help the kids with homework when I'm babysitting. I help my old high school speech and debate team. I must be able to constructively criticize the students but make speech and debate fun and challenging. I work well with kids, from elementary school to high school.

A Little Bit About Me...

While I earned my bachelor's degree in communication from Loyola, I also worked as an Academic coach for high school students. I spent a year tutoring students for an academic competition that tested all skill areas including, writing, math, history and science. I spent the summer of 2006 working closely with people with disabilities. I perfected my teaching skills through hands-on learning/teaching techniques.
I believe in setting goals and working to ensure they are accomplished. In my opinion, learning should never feel like a boring chore. The student should be working hard, but enjoying him or herself in the process, and this is when the most efficient and effective learning occurs. A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with anyone who is willing to learn. It is a passion of mine to educate someone further on a certain subject, and to see them use what they've learned, not just for school but for situations outside of school as well.
I recently earned my bachelor's degree in English, from Iowa State University. As a young R.O.T.C cadet, I was very driven to excel in my college education. On my way to becoming a young Army Officer, I earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Communications and BA in Accoutning. My liberal arts educations granted me opportunities to learn and excel in many arenas such as writing, math, science, and the social sciences. A Little Bit About Me...

My undergraduate and graduate education has given me the tools needed to excel as a student and given me the needed skills to tutor students in English and writing. My education required extensive fiction and research writing, as well as a vast exposure to dramatic, fiction and nonfiction literature. At the elementary level I have 2 years experience as a K,1st and 2nd grade combined teacher, three years as a 1st grade teacher and 1 year as combined 1st and 2nd grade teacher. In the area of special education I have taught students from age 3 to 16 with Mental Disabilities for 8 years. A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a teaching assistant for the Simpson College English Department. I selected the books for the semester, drafted the curriculum, and I instruct classes. I also hold advisory office hours. I teach poetry, fiction and nonfiction. In addition to these things, I am a poet and fiction writer with a high level of experience and craft, and can assist students in expressing themselves creatively.
My approach for each class is to focus on the text and do exercises that give students the opportunity to work with the text first-hand. I focus on troublesome areas and I spend many hours planning each class. I prefer to let students come up with their own decisions, and craft their responses into the key ideas of the lesson. I believe that flexibility is key, and this strategy makes the students feel comfortable with discussing and thinking on their own terms.
